Lessons from Africa’s data-sharing practices during COVID-19

Morine Amutorine, Neil Lawrence and Jessica Montgomery have published Increasing data sharing and use for social good: Lessons from Africa’s data-sharing practices during the COVID-19 response in Data & Policy.

The commentary comes out of the group’s project on data sharing in Africa, organised with Data Science Africa. It reviews case studies and findings from 74 data-centric COVID-19 interventions: where data access worked, how interventions were run, and how stakeholders were engaged. It then points to three areas for later policy — institutions, people and platforms — if those practices are to outlast the pandemic.
