GDS Responsible AI Advisory Panel holds its first meeting
Neil Lawrence has joined the Government Digital Service panel advising ministers on the responsible use of AI across government.
Overview
The GDS Responsible AI Advisory Panel was established by the Government Digital Service (GDS) under the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). It brings together views from across the public sector, industry, academia and civil society on the responsible use of AI, as part of the government’s AI for the public good agenda set out in the Roadmap for Modern Digital Government.
The panel provides expert strategic advice to DSIT ministers and senior officials, informs GDS on best practice for developing responsible AI, and offers constructive challenge on government’s approach to responsible AI products. It is chaired by Jeni Tennison and held its first meeting on 2 March 2026.
Neil is a panel member, contributing expertise on machine learning, data governance and AI systems.
