The Sorrento Meeting 2026 ran from 30 March to 1 April 2026 at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio. Its theme was the future of machine learning publishing. A full-day plenary on 31 March, organised by Neil Lawrence with Katherine Gorman and Christian Cabrera, brought contributed talks and group discussion on peer review, LLM effects on conferences, AI-assisted authorship and open archival.
The meeting also marked twenty years of the Proceedings of Machine Learning Research. Neil proposed a workshop-and-conference proceedings track to JMLR in 2006 after the Gaussian Processes in Practice workshop at Bletchley Park; the first volume appeared in March 2007. Rebranded as PMLR in 2015–17, the series remains a community-run, open venue for conference and workshop proceedings. Neil continues as a series editor.
General chairs for 2026 included Neil, Hanni Sondermann, Christian Cabrera and Radzim Sendyka, among other Cambridge colleagues. Workshop days covered AI for science and agentic AI. More on the wider programme is on the community building page.

The Accelerate Science Programme and education technology company Cambridge Spark are offering researchers across Cambridge University a new self-learning module so they can learn programming in Python.

(5 July 2022) The Accelerate Programme in collaboration with C2D3 is offering small grants for Cambridge University researchers pursuing innovative applications of AI, in research or real-world contexts. Funding can support a variety of activities, including events, workshops, teaching, software development, or research, with a focus on interdisciplinary collaboration.
