On 24 July 2020 DELVE published Balancing the Risks of Pupils Returning to Schools. The Royal Society’s summary put the case for prioritising reopenings.
The report contrasts limited evidence (to that date) of high infection risk from school opening relative to many other activities with substantial evidence of harm from closure: lost learning, worse mental and physical health, and widened inequality. Keeping schools open, it argues, is also key to unlocking the rest of the economy for parents. Coverage spanned BBC, The Guardian, The Times, The Telegraph and others (see DELVE’s media round-up).
